Katie Swanson, the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve's Stewardship Coordinator, is working on our Surface Elevation Tables that monitor accretion and erosion rates in the marsh, and look at sea level rise impacts to habitats. Katie is using a metal detector to find the metal rod that the equipment fits into due to Hurricane Harvey covering the rod up with sediment. She attaches the monitoring equipment to the rod to measure sediment changes. One of the monitoring locations was eroded badly during the hurricane, leaving the rod exposed, where the rod top used to be about level with the sediment. A dynamic system we live, work, and play in!
