Check out this device we found on the beach on one of our beach
#turtle surveys. It's called a RAFOS float and the glass float measures temperature and pressure, and records times-of-arrival of sound signals (pongs) emitted from a set of moored sound beacons. From that information, since the float is a passive drifter in the deep currents, we can learn how the deep ocean currents flow. The float belongs to a researcher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution out of Woods Hole, MA. The attached image is of Jace Tunnell boxing up the float in a wood crate to mail back to Woods Hole.
